"Graphite" Series – Miguel Ángel Aranda

Original graphic work on antique paper

The "Graphite" series stems from an intimate exploration of pencil drawing. In these works, artist Miguel Ángel Aranda delves into line, chiaroscuro, and the expression of the human figure and face, with an approach that combines technical precision and emotional sensitivity. Each piece was originally created in graphite pencil on prepared board and subsequently photographed for printing on an original page from the French magazine La Petite Illustration, published between 1900 and 1950.

These vintage pages, originally intended to collect theatrical texts premiered in Paris, now serve as a poetic and visual medium for new graphic narratives. The combination of contemporary linework with paper steeped in history transforms each work into an authentic, unique, and unrepeatable piece.

In addition, some of the prints have been manually intervened with white ink by the artist himself, reinforcing the artisanal and exclusive character of the work.

About La Petite Illustration – an artistic imprint

La Petite Illustration is an art label dedicated to producing contemporary graphic art on recycled materials. We work exclusively with original pages from vintage publications, primarily from the eponymous French magazine that, during the first half of the 20th century, disseminated plays premiered in Paris. These reclaimed pages serve as a canvas for illustrations, collages, and prints that breathe new life into old paper.

Each piece is a combination of history, art and sustainability, designed for those who value authenticity and handmade items.
