The Infanta Margarita Teresa was daughter of King Felipe IV of Spain and her niece and second wife, Mariana of Austria and, therefore, sister of King Carlos II. From 1660 it became a valuable piece of state policy, which could enable reconciliation between the two branches of the Habsburgs, distanced from the Peace of Westphalia.
